12 Common Mistakes of Website Desiging

0 comments, Posted by Anonymous at 11:14 PM ,
Details frequently spell the difference between attractive, easy-to-read pages that project a professional image and boring, hard-to-read pages that undermine your firm or association's credibility.

Here are some of the areas to pay particular attention to.
1. Gray pagesGray pages are the result of too much type, not enough white space and a lack of typographic contrast between each element of page architecture. Readers should be able to glance at a page and easily identify headlines, subheads, body copy and captions.
Typeface, type size and type style choices that are only slightly different from one another confuse the reader and create boring pages. Make sure that headlines and subheads form a strong contrast with adjacent text. This contrast can be created by using a different typeface, a significantly larger type size, a different type style or
Other causes include:
  • Insufficient line-spacing. Line spacing should be proportional to type size, line length and--most important--the typeface used. Your software program's automatic, or "default" leading (the fancy word for line spacing) choice is rarely the right one.
  • Crowded headlines. Iinsufficient white space surrounding headlines and subheads makes them hard to find, hard to read and--thus--they fail to attract your reader into reading your publication.
  • Margins. Text that extends too close to the edges of each page projets a claustrophobic image and makes it harder for your readers to hold your brochure or newsletter without obscuring some of the words.
2. Lack of white space at top, bottom and sides of page.White space makes pages more attractive and easier to read by providing a resting space for the reader's eyes and creating empty/filled contrast with the text on the page.

  • Vertical white space. One easy way to add white space is to employ a "scholarsmargin," a narrow column of white space at the outer edge of each page that can be also used for occasional text like notes or pull-quotes.
  • White space at page top. You can align text and graphics along a deep top margin, or sink, that builds white space into the top of each page.
  • Varying white space at column endings. Scalloped columns, columns of unequal length, also add white space and visual interest to the bottom of each page.
3. Long lines of small type or short lines of large type. It's hard to decide which is worse!

  • Long lines of small type are tiring to read because each line requires several left-to-right eye movements. In addition, readers can get lost at the ends of each line on the right and return to the beginning of the wrong line—or, even worse, reread the same line (called doubling).
  • Short lines of large type are characterized by excessive hyphenation and awkward word spacing (lines with wide word spacing can follow lines with narrow word spacing).
4. Narrow columns of justified textNarrow columns of justified type do not offer enough opportunities for words to be properly spaced. As a result, lines containing a few long words are characterized by huge gaps between words and lines containing several short words exhibit extremely tight word spacing.
Narrow columns of justified text are also characterized by excessive hyphenation.
5. Inappropriate bordersPage borders should reinforce the text, not distract. Boxed borders create barriers to reading on to the next page. Centered, boxed borders are inappropriate for asymmetrical page layouts.
Alternatives to boxed pages include top and bottom borders which extend the width of the text or a light horizontal rule at the top of the page combined with a heavy rule at the bottom of the page to "weight," or anchor the page.
6. Overuse of reverses, screens, rules and boxesSmall areas of reversed text can attract attention far out of importance to the importance of the text they contain.

  • A single, large reversed headline is preferable to several smaller reversed headlines.
  • Text set against screened or tinted backgrounds (less than 100% color saturation) is harder to read than regular text because the reduced foreground/background contrast makes it harder for readers to recognize the distinctive shapes of each letter.
Rules and boxes form barriers which not only distract but also add clutter to a page. When used properly, such as above subheads, rules emphasize that one topic is ending and another is being introduced.
Boxes form even stronger barriers but should only be used to intentionally separate text or visuals not used simply for emphasis.
7. Incorrect punctuation Readers are no longer willing to accept up-and-down "inch mark" quotation marks. Replace them with open and closed quotes and use typeset apostrophes rather than vertical "inch and foot" or tick marks.
  • Replace two hyphens with Em dashes to introduce and close parenthetical phrases and En dashes to indicate duration (January-February).
  • Use hard (or non-breaking) spaces to keep names and dates from splitting across two lines. "Hang" punctuation so that quotation marks appear in the column margins, to maintain the alignment of the first (and—with justified text—the last) letters of each line.
8. "Floating" initial capsInitial caps should be closely related to the text they introduce. Carefully align the baseline of the initial cap with one of the lines of the paragraph. Text should wrap as tightly to the initial caps as possible. Try setting the first line of text following an initial cap in upper case type.
  • Whenever possible, rewrite the first sentence to avoid sentences beginning with one-letter (i.e. "I," "A" or ) or two-letter words (i.e. "To").
  • Use overhanging initial caps like T's, Y's or A's and open letters like C with care because it is difficult to relate adjacent text to them.
9. Excessive text wraps. Whenever possible, align photographs, charts and pull-quotes with the underlying column grid. Photographs, charts and pull-quotes placed between columns or extending part way into the next column create problems by reducing the line length of the text in the adjacent columns. This disturbs the reader's established rhythm.
Text wraps extending into columns of justified text cause awkward word spacing and excessive hyphenation. Pull-quotes and visuals placed between columns of left-justified text looks awkward because the irregular line endings on the left are inconsistent with the neat, vertically alignment of each line on the right.
10. Unnecessary spacingAvoid unwanted text spacing within and between paragraphs
  • Duplicate spaces. Avoid using two spaces after periods. Only one space is needed following periods.
  • Unnecessary indents. Never indent the first line of a paragraph following a headline or subhead; indents are only necessary within columns of text because the headline or subhead signals the beginning of a new paragraph.
  • Always hyphenate. Hyphenate left-justified text to avoid exaggerated differences in line length, and distracting shapes. Hyphenated justified text to eliminate large gaps in lines containing just a few long words.
  • Control word spacing. With justified text, adjust your software program's word spacing justification limits command to reduce maximum permissible word spacing.
  • Fine-tune lists. Eliminate space in lists by reducing the distance between bullets (or numbers) and the text they introduce.
11. Widows and orphansPay particular attention to the tops and bottoms of columns and pages.
  • Widows. Avoid widows, sentences beginning new paragraphs placed subheads at the bottom of a column or page. When a new paragraph begins, keep at least two--preferably three--lines together.
  • Orphans. Avoid orphans, sentence fragments or portions of hyphenated words isolated at the top of a new column or page.
  • Subheads. Avoid subheads appearing by themselves at the bottom of a colun or page. Make sure that at least two sentences of the paragarph the subhead introduces appears following the subhead.
12. Color printingColor obscures more often tha it enhances. Often, color detracts, rather than emphasizes, important information.
Color works best as a background element, such as a field against which text is set, rather than as a foreground element itself. Text set in color is often harder to read than the same words set in black. Just setting headlines and subheads in color does not necessarily mean that they will be more noticeable than the text surrounding them. Small text set in color is hardest to read of all.
Avoid overly bright colored backgrounds that can interfere with headlines and text. Always provide plenty of foreground/background contrast.

25 tips toward boosting your confidence and self esteem

0 comments, Posted by Anonymous at 1:21 AM ,

1- love yourself :

This can take a bit of practice and looks really funny, but try it, it works. When you wake up give yourself a great big hug. Do the same when it's time for sleep.

You've heard this said a million times before: "How can you expect others to love you if you don't love yourself?" it's true.

Practice the morning and evening hugs for 2 weeks, maybe 3 weeks if you're the stubborn type, and you'll see how well it works.

2- look in the mirror :

Every time you pass a mirror, look into it and flash your biggest and best smile at yourself. It might feel strange at first, but eventually it'll make you feel brilliant about yourself.

Tell yourself "looking good!" or "Wow, I love me!" or similar phrases often enough to actually start believing it.

3- Do things that make you feel good:

This can be anything from listening to music, trekking in the Andes, doing some

Volunteer work or even just taking a shower.

Anything that gives you appositive feeling about yourself works for this one.

4- Listen to you:

Face it. Nobody knows you better than you know yourself, no matter how many

People try to tell you differently. So if your body, mind or gut is telling you something, then take notice of it , and don't worry about what other people may possibly have to say about it.

5- Talk to you:

In times of stress, take a time-out break. Wander into your own mind and have a conversation with yourself about anything at all.

Tell yourself how lucky you are to be you, and praise yourself for every good and

Positive thing you can attribute to yourself.

6- Remove negatives:

If anything feels like it's dragging you down, get rid of it.

If it's clutter, tidy up, if it's right now. If it's your kids acting up, leave the room for a while and so on.

7- Surround with positives;

Surround yourself with things that bring out good feelings on you.

Example could be things such as happy, upbeat friends, a nice new picture, a new car, an old comfy blanket, candle, pictures of your family, your girlfriend, boyfriend, Spouse etc.

8- Rumours Die:

Did you hear something about somebody how said about somebody else?

Drop it! Rumours are nasty, horrible things that will only bring you down.

Best way to kill rumour? Ignore it!

9-Total Honesty:

Be totally honest with yourself at all times. If there's something you don’t like, admit it.

If there's something you don't want to do "right now" and it isn't necessary for helth and safety reasons than just don't do it until you feel like it.

Same goes for the positive aspects. If there's something you want to do , and it's not hurting anybody, then go ahead and do it.

If you start feeling great about yourself for no apparent reason admit it and enjoy the feeling.

10- responsibility:

Take full responsibility for your own actions. Don't shove the blame for anything over onto someone or something else.

We all make choices in our lives, and once we take responsibility for choices we tend to choose better for ourselves.

Once we start to choose better, we feel better and things start falling into place.

On other hand, don’t take over someone else's responsibility just because feel "you have to"

11- Pretend:

If you feel unsafe, un sure or nervous then go inside yourself and pretend you're

a hot-shot lawyer, actor, actress, singer and whatever you need to be.

Make believe you're presenting yourself as that person would until you feel

better.

Trust me, you WILL feel better, and eventually have no need to be anything but yourself.

12- Keep trying:

If you're trying to something but don't get it right first time round, then try

again, and again, and again, constantly learning from your mistakes until you get

It right. When you finally DO get it right, you'll feel wonderful about it.

13- Credit where credit is due:

If you've done something really good, and people compliment you on it, accept

the compliments with thanks! Understand that they're complimenting because

they really ARE impressed with what you've done. Believe in you and give yourself a pat on the back. (Although physically it would probably be easier to just give yourself a round of applause).

14-stand tall:

Standing up straight will always make you feel better about yourself than

Slouching dose.

Stand with your feet slightly apart, suck in your tummy and behind, broaden your shoulders and straighten your neck. It's amazingly quick confidence boost.

15- Say hello:

Make it a rule to say hi to at least one person you don't know EVREY day. Give

them the smile you flash at You flash at yourself in the mirror, the biggest and

best one you can find.

They'll smile back automatically, and they'll walk away with a little extra

Confidence boost thanks to you.

People look their best when they smile, and they also feel better by smiling too!

This ultimately means you get confidence boost too, for making someone else feel good about themselves.

16- Never Say Never …Ever:

If you think something can't be done, then you'll end up proving yourself right

eventually. So never say never. Just keep plugging along until it works for you.

If there people are telling you it can't be done. You're going to feel such Immense satisfaction at actually doing it that your confidence will soar.

17- Get Active:

Don't sit around the house just doing nothing. Get up, go out, cycling, walking

exercising, anything that might invigorate your brain. A lively brain full of thoughts will help you gain confidence.

18- "Happy Foods":

Happy foods. Such as chocolate. Strawberries, lemons, ice cream ect will

Increase the serotonin levels in your brain, leading to an increased feeling of

happiness.

Feeling happy is a natural confidence boost.

So go on, enjoy your food! (in moderation, of course).

19- Face Your Fear:

Is there something you are afraid of? Face it full on.

Doing something scary and overcoming the fear is fantastic way to boost your

confidence. So go on, jump out of that plane(with a parachute of course), drive

that car, speak in of a large crowd, ask a promotion, or whatever it is that scares

you .

You'll feel absolutely brilliant once it's done

20- Will Power:

Create a goal that you really want to reach.

Possibly something like weight loss before a certain time, giving up smoking or

having a certain amount of money in the bank within so-so many months ect.

Take baby steps, and use your will power until you succeed at raching your goal.

It will be really hard, as will power can be very elusive at times, but keep going

and don't give up.

Once you have reached that first goal by using your will power you will have the confidence to create new goals AND reach them.

21- Ask question:

Any time you find yourself worrying about something you haven't done, or

Something you think you should have done, ask yourself positive question.

Instead of thinking "I'm terrible for missing my friend's birthday" think "what

Can I do to make my friend feel special?"

Or, instead of "Why can't I ever seem to do things on time?" change it to "What

can I change to better manage my time"

Creating positive questions will release the negative energies which have

a tendency to pull down your self confidence.

22- Learn:

Accept that not everything works out the way we plane it. Decide to accept any

Mistakes and rejections as part of learning curve that we all need to go through.

Without mistakes, you can't learn from your own experiences. Remember,

experiences build confidence, so always learn as much as you can.

23-list:

Write a list of every single thing you're good at, anything from clipping the dog's

toenails to putting up a shelf .

Tack the time to sit and actually think about what you ARE good at and add them

all to the list. You'll be surprised at how many things you end up jotting down, no

matter how minor or trivial they may seem at the time.

Whenever you have a spare 5 minutes, or if you're feeling alittle low, take the list

out of your pocket and read it. This is a great a little way to give yourself a nice

confidence boost.

24- Help out:

There are lots of ways to help others, and feeling useful and helpful are great

Ways of building your confidence. Just make sure you do things because you

WANT to do them. You could call a good friend who may be down at the

Moment-even take them out for coffee, you will brighten both yours day, or

you could possibly help out at an old folks home or similar.

Knowing that people appreciate your help will boost your confidence for sure.

25 - Show the way:

Think of one thing you do best of all. Think long and hard about this one.

Thought of something?

Now, find a discussion group or similar related to that topic and spread your

Wisdom by answering questions, offering advice or help anybody needing it.

If you can't find the group, you could even start one yourself. People will look

up to you and that will give you all the more reason to feel confident about

Yourself.

Isang Snack House at Computer Shop Business niya.

Pacman Wins Agains Marquez

0 comments, Posted by Anonymous at 3:41 PM ,
